The goal for Frederic Chopin Elementary School, is to constantly work hard and get better. While improved test scores is part of this improvement because is allows our students increased options for High School and provides them with scholarship opportunities, that is not our only goal. We provide our students instruction in Visual Arts and Music to nurture their creativity and expression. Our Academic instruction focuses on student discourse, where students can explain, defend and debate ideas in all subjects. We look at the whole child; developing social-emotional instruction and supports to overcome the challenges many students and families face. Improving is not an easy task, but with hard work from our staff and students, support from parents, and planning with our Local School Council and Teacher Teams, we will continue to Move Forward Together.
Priority One
96% Daily Attendance Rate Students have to be here to learn all that they can. Missing even a couple of days a month can negatively impact a students learning. We offer additional support for students and families with Chronic Absenteeism. Chopin has monthly attendance incentives including prizes for the classroom with the highest attendance rate, attendance raffles, and special attendance celebrations. To increase the school attendance rate and to better support our students with behavioral challenges, we use Restorative Practices as consequences for negative behaviors. These Restorative Practices include Restorative Conversations, Mediation Sessions, Peace Circles, and Skill Building In-School Detention. Students who are chronically absent may be referred to the School Counselor or outside agencies for additional support.

Priority two
Getting more than half of our students above grade level attainment on the NWEA Assessment
When students can read and execute mathematics problems at grade level, they have increased access to more challenging activities that will better prepare them for High School and College Success. Parents can support this goal by signing up for Parent Portal to monitor students grades online. Chopin offers some before and after school activities including tutoring. All after school activities have an academic connection and can help your students improve. Chopin also uses a variety of technology for literacy and mathematics support that students have access to from home using a computer or mobile device. If you child does not know how to access the software from home, contact your child's teacher for more information. |
Priority Three
Read 20-30 Minutes each Day (Including in Summer)
Research shows that reading 20 to 30 minutes a day increases the number of words students are exposed to each day, month, and year. This exposure to words is critical from the moment students are born. Babies and young children learn listening to parents read to them each day. Reading is just as critical as students begin to read for themselves. Outside of school, this reading allows students to explore their interests, curiosities, and the world. A powerful practice in a household is to have Tune In time where the whole family takes a break from technology and spend reading time together. And it doesn't matter what your child reads- Comic Books, Novels, Magazines, Online News Media,Graphic Novels, Cookbooks... Reading and the discussion about what they are reading is what makes the difference. |
